Finding a Gem of a Sofa, in the Most Unlikely Place!

decorating with an inexpensive sofa

We have successfully accomplished the first thing on our home goal list for 2018, and only 12 days into the new year… breaks into a happy dance!ย

We purchased a new sofa set! This was something that we desperately needed. Our old couch, although beautiful, was beginning to wear, and not be as supportive.

Since I just turned 36 yesterday, I know a bit about the aches and pains that are coming with the aging process. I deal with a lot of neck and spine pain, and not having a supportive couch to rest on was really making me hurt.

So we did as any normal couple does, and headed off to Costco on a Saturday to stock up on chicken, wine, and men’s under shirts.

Little did we know that there was going to be a huge stock of furniture available. I know that they offer furniture from time to time, but I’ve never really given it the time of day. I guess because we have never needed anything.

There was this one couch set (in one of our favorite go to colors, grey) and it was getting a lot of attention. We had to circle back a few times before being able to get a good look at it. There were so many people looking at it! That’s a good sign, right?

I have to be honest and say that at first it was not what I was envisioning. I had this idea that we were going to have a custom sofa made in a mid- century modern style. It’s hard for me to come away from an idea once I get stuck on it, but that’s the beauty of decorating on a budget. It really allows for you to see a different view on things, and become creative. The one thing that I did worry about was possibly getting tired of the ultra modern look. I like to have a blend of it incorporated, but I don’t think that I want to fully branch out. So back to support, comfort, affordability, and style.

This sofa and armchair set really fit the bill. First, it already had both items that would need to be replaced, instead of having to find a matching/coordinating armchair. That saves both time and money. Secondly, we both love the color grey, and that ensures that whatever color choices that we make in accessories and rugs will coordinate. There is also the fact that it is really well built, and very supportive. Last, but not least, I think it’s a good mix between modern and contemporary styles. This fits the bill perfectly!

Oh, and for those of you wondering, the set was only $600. SCORE!!

Now, the next step is, new couch pillows. I am currently undecided on the rug and couch combo, but since I love both pieces, I’m going to try to work with what I have.

Any ideas on places that sell nice pillows? I’m headed out today to search. Wish me luck!

  1. And THAT is why I LOVE Costco!!! The first couch we bought (together) was from Costco… we loved that couch, but it was way too big (6 piece sectional) ๐Ÿ˜ณ for our condo… Costco for the win! They have the best finds!! I love your new couch, too… by the way!!! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š
